Project Scope

QH&M BIRT was engaged for the construction of an earthfill buttress to the existing Cell 1 Tailings Dam, enhancing the stability and long-term performance of the facility.

Project details

Key Features:

  • 50,000m3 of topsoil stripping and vegetation removal
  • Placement of seepage blanket under buttress embankment including finger outlet drains
  • 300,000m3 of engineered buttress embankment construction including access ramps and safety bunds
  • 20,000m3 of Decant rockfill construction over existing decant
  • Construction of new spillway basin including grouted rock protection
  • Construction of over 500m of subsoil drainage system including trench excavation, bedding, HDPE pipe installation and sump outlet construction and connection
